I successfully Exchanged My Own Personal Trainer for AI – And It's Working.
Leah Walsh
After a holiday period filled with rich foods and downtime, numerous individuals enter the new year looking to regain their fitness momentum.
However, could AI be changing the world of exercise by offering an option to personal trainers?
Personalized Programs and Flexible Schedules
One fitness enthusiast employed an artificial intelligence application for last-minute preparation for the a major running event.
The 21-year-old from Aberdare explained she appreciated the liberty to ask it questions at all hours – something she felt was unavailable with a personal trainer.
She used an AI-driven fitness application that gave her customized schedules with audio coaching and pace setting for her inaugural long-distance race in recent years.
She explained she asked it to create a regimen merging running and the weight training, and it produced an 11-week plan customized to her event day and goals.
Leah then adjusted the plan to suit her daily routine, which she described was highly practical.
The following year, she opted for a different tool because it was more affordable and she could ask it questions at any time. Her result was a full minute quicker than her target finish.
She noted she did not want feeling pressure from a live instructor.
"With AI you have to find your own drive, which I actually prefer," she added.

Remarkable Fitness Improvements
In a similar case, Another individual, 23, from Swansea, has been using AI for his fitness and diet plans, and reported he has never felt stronger, increasing his chest press from 70kg to a much heavier load.
Richard resorted to a bot for assistance after being forced to walk a race.
"I realized I had to sort myself out," he commented.
The free tool constructed a fitness and meal program personalized to his aims, and established organized workouts.
"I work out for about 120 minutes a day and I've seen a noticeable change," he added.
The Expense Comparison: Technology vs. Traditional Coaching
A recent survey in late 2024 compared costs for 17 of the largest gym brands and found the average membership cost was around £38 per month, for standard full-access plans.
Prices ranged from a lower price at the cheapest chain to a premium rate at the highest-priced.
Based on industry research, fitness coaches set their own rates, typically a range of thirty to sixty-five pounds per hour-long appointment outside London and about £45-£65 in London.
Clients typically hire a trainer once or twice a week and work with them for a short period, but these agreements are often adaptable.

The Essential Human Touch
Personal trainer one experienced professional, from the Welsh capital, acknowledged artificial intelligence can be beneficial to accelerate results, but is convinced it will never replace the personal interaction and responsibility that live training offers.
This expert, who has over a decade of experience as a trainer, focuses on senior clients and injury rehabilitation. He said a number of his trainees also use technology.
"In my opinion it's very valuable, additional information is positive," he stated.
"I think the more people are connected digitally the more they'll want human connection because they want the empathy from the comprehension that is missing from a machine," he continued.
The trainer said Artificial intelligence can educate users and make guidance more efficient.
But, he said true dedication comes when people show up in person for their sessions.
"As useful as it is at 2am, a digital tool won't keep you accountable at 7am before work," he concluded.
For many, he said, the gym is a space to disconnect from devices and stop being glued to screens.
