Nigel Farage Accuses Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by telling children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his viewpoint on British schools, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a walkout by educators very quickly after securing a victory,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They inform an eight-year-old black child that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They create division, not uniting us. They promote this harmful mindset.”
In response to these assertions, Daniel Kebede dismissed the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “absurd”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his public life on coded rhetoric and now, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a conflict,” the union leader said.
“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments indicated the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with education – truly monumental. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, he commented: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves as opposed to what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted through education, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in recent years led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He said such groups were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I am serious. I’ll assist garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to your online courses. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The college, a small private Christian college, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these excellent programs for free to all who wish to learn.”
