Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with results so bad.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
