The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a young woman containing several human souls within her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four separate souls, each with their own fears and motivations. These souls can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the action takes place within a creepy hospital, while additional clips depict the main character exploring a desolate church.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are specific to every individual."

The central gameplay loop involves managing the persona that surfaces at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily as you play. While exploring, each soul's fears become amplified and attack the girl in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with orderlies all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have large blooms growing from their heads should be. Flowers are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four souls claims that the body is rightfully them," explains a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. But, because each soul can lie or hide the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The final entity remaining could be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is can be follow on platforms.
