The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes several key changes:

  • Every squad has only 8 real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for players seeking alternative methods to enjoy the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
