The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family go about their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
