This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
