Tottenham Boss Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not Real Fans'

Fulham Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "they cannot be true Spurs supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in two scores in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth top-flight home loss of the year.

But the main topic of discussion was the visitors' second goal when the keeper lost the ball well beyond his box.

The goalkeeper came out to deal with a long ball and took the ball towards the touchline.

But, rather than booting it into touch, the Italian spun and tried to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by King.

The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at 36.6 yards.

Seconds later when the ball went to the keeper once more, a number of Tottenham supporters jeered him.

The team were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.

One of those jeering episodes really irritated Frank.

"It came to my attention some of our fans reportedly booed the situation and booed after, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Dane stated about the supporters' response to his goalkeeper.

"Those individuals can't be true Spurs fans that act that way. Fair enough jeering following the match, no problem, but when we are in play, we are backing each other, we are with each other going forward."

Tete had given the visitors a early lead prior to Wilson's goal – with Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second period showing.

Former top-flight keeper Hart stated that the next goal was "totally avoidable".

"I do understand the fans' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I know the part the keeper is playing. He's a excellent team player, he's a real figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"He was heavily involved in what turned out to be the winning score."

'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Frank Defended His Keeper Vicario Following the Match

Italian international the keeper is in his third season with Tottenham.

He said after the match that he had to take the feedback.

"That score was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for that," he commented.

"The intent was to kick the ball long and I simply struck the ball in a bad manner. That made an more difficult mountain to climb."

He said receiving jeers "is part of the game".

"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team cannot be affected by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do as they see fit.

"It's on us to remain more calm, to focus on ourselves. The team is lacking in calmness and poise to overturn outcomes. Today is a bad defeat and it's hard to take."

'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Goal Line'

In spite of Vicario's error, it was not an easy goal for Wilson to score.

In fact it was the second longest-range Premier League goal of the season – after Tyler Adams' 43.3 metre strike for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally also occurred on Saturday.

Wilson said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty net to target.

Ten moments passed between the keeper coming out of his box and the midfielder striking – which was 5 moments following the clearance.

"I felt like the goalkeeper was out of the area for ages," he said.

"It amazed me not one of the back four went back to the goal line. When not one of them defended the net, my interest sparked a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie fell too, which allowed me a little extra time. After that it was solely about trying to make the right contact and get it towards goal. I felt a good feeling, the moment it came off my foot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Bad Spell, All Appears to Go Against You'

Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager

While the keeper's mistake led coverage, this was an overall poor performance for Spurs to extend their home ground struggles.

This was their tenth at home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint team statistic matching 1994 and two thousand and three.

They still have home fixtures against Frank's former club Brentford and champions Liverpool to play before the close of the season.

Just a single of those wins have come since the manager took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"If you are behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," said the boss.

"During in a bad spell, all aspects appears to work against you too – the first was a deflected shot, the next is a error from Vic.

"This result leaves us in a place where we have suffered an additional game. Every game has a unique narrative, this game we lost in the early stages.

"We just need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully an aspect we can use to learn."

Spurs have lost four straight at home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.

Furthermore they are averaging nine point five attempts and three point two efforts on goal per game in the division – their lowest rates on record in a one campaign (since at least 2003-04).

Ex- Cottagers midfield player Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He must take the stick," the pundit remarked. "He's accepted a prestigious job at a major team with massive anticipation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.

"The performances at their stadium have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
